Oh man, I’m so bad at this.
Ok, its time for another installment of the TEDActive blog post. Probably the last, but don’t worry, ill give you some very good information.
After waking up in what I thought was very cold weather, we head out to the conference room to finally experience TED. When we walked in the conference room, my idea of what a TED conference should be was shattered. Instead of a theatre like space, the place was filled with red beanie bags, state of the art and weird looking chairs, and tens of flat screen TV’s. there was even a place that the TVs was hung 2 meters high, facing the ground, and below it was a large round cushion for people to lay over and watch the talks. On the sides were laptops for people to blog and tweet. There I could sense that TEDActive was a whole other ballgame. It was fun! So there it was, grown ass people slouching over beanie bags, starring at big TVs, with complimentary Bing pillows.
The simulcast started with a musician named Thomas Dolby. He and his band/’Chamber Orchestra’ played bittersweet symphony by the Verve Pipes; a great piece to start the whole thing.
And finally, Chris Anderson the curator of TED went up on stage and opened the event. “Bittersweet is about right” he said. He focused on the bitter part. He confessed to a rage that he has about the condition of the world. He wanted to explore more of what the world needs now. Hence the tagline for this year’s event “What the World Needs Now”. He then said “Its time for TED!”
And so it began. 4 days, 12 session, close to 100 speakers (or is it more?) that blew our minds away.
So, instead of giving you guys a rundown of the event, we will give you a recommendation of videos to watch out for. And make no mistake they are phenomenal!
